Working with Files in OnDemand#

Before working on the cluster, it's important to understand where different types of files should be stored in the folder hierarchy. Therefore, we strongly recommend reviewing our Data Storage page to get this information.

Accessing the Files Page in OnDemand#

  1. Connect to OnDemand at https://ondemand.hpc.iter.es/ with your credentials.
  2. Click on Files.
  3. Select Home Directory.

You should see the following:

Creating a Folder#

  1. Connect to OnDemand at https://ondemand.hpc.iter.es/ with your credentials.
  2. Click on Files.
  3. Select Home Directory
  4. Click on New Directory.
  5. Enter the directory name.
  6. Click on OK.

Your directory has been created! You can navigate to it by selecting it in the file interface, and now you can add files there.

Uploading a File#

  1. Connect to OnDemand at https://ondemand.hpc.iter.es/ with your credentials.
  2. Click on Files.
  3. Select Home Directory
  4. Click on Upload.
  5. Select Browse Files to upload a file.
  6. Navigate to the file you would like to upload. Note that you can select multiple.
  7. Click on Upload File.

Your file has been uploaded to the directory you specified in Adroit. You can see the file by clicking on its filename in the Files interface.

NOTE:

When uploading files through the OnDemand portal, each upload is limited to a size of 2 GB. If you need to upload larger files, we recommend using Linux commands, as described on our data transfer page. You can enter these Linux commands within the Terminal, which you can open as described in our section on running a terminal from OnDemand later on this page. Contact support@hpc.iter.es if you need help with this.

Creating a File#

  1. Connect to OnDemand at https://ondemand.hpc.iter.es/ with your credentials.
  2. Click on Files.
  3. Select Home Directory
  4. Click on New File.
  5. Enter the new file name.
  6. Click on OK.

Your file has been created!

Editing a File#

  1. Connect to OnDemand at https://ondemand.hpc.iter.es/ with your credentials.
  2. Click on Files.
  3. Select Home Directory
  4. Navigate to your file.
  5. Select the option from the menu with 3 vertical dots and a downward arrow next to your file.
  6. Select Edit from the dropdown menu that appears.

You are now in the editing interface for your file. Fill it with any content you need. Once you are finished, click Save in the top left corner of the Editor interface.

Renaming a File#

  1. Connect to OnDemand at https://ondemand.hpc.iter.es/ with your credentials.
  2. Click on Files.
  3. Select Home Directory
  4. Navigate to your file.
  5. Select the option from the menu with 3 vertical dots and a downward arrow next to your file.
  6. Select Rename from the dropdown menu that appears.
  7. Enter your new file name.
  8. Click on OK.

Your file has been renamed!

Copying/Moving a File#

  1. Connect to OnDemand at https://ondemand.hpc.iter.es/ with your credentials.
  2. Click on Files.
  3. Select Home Directory
  4. Navigate to your file.
  5. Select the checkbox to the left of the file(s) you would like to copy/move.
  6. Click on the Copy/Move button in the top right of the Files interface.
  7. Navigate to the directory to which you would like to copy/move your file(s).
  8. Click on the Copy or Move button in the dialogue on the left of your screen depending on the operation you wish to perform.

Your file(s) have been copied/moved!

Deleting a File#

  1. Connect to OnDemand at https://ondemand.hpc.iter.es/ with your credentials.
  2. Click on Files.
  3. Select Home Directory
  4. Navigate to your file.
  5. Select the option from the menu with 3 vertical dots and a downward arrow next to your file.
  6. Select Delete from the dropdown menu that appears. Or:
  7. Select the checkbox to the left of the file(s) you would like to delete.
  8. Click on Delete at the top right corner of the Files interface.

Your file(s) have been deleted!
